Who needs to take Florida advanced driver improvement?

If you have received a letter from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) notifying you that your driver's license has been suspended or revoked, you will need to complete a 12-hour Florida Advanced Driver Improvement (ADI) course in order to get your license back. The same holds true if you have been ordered by a judge to complete a 12-hour ADI course. If either of these situations applies to you, you have come to the right website!

How will taking the Florida advanced driver improvement class affect my license suspension / revocation?

Taking the online ADI class will not eliminate the requirement for you to serve out your license suspension / revocation period. If you received notification from the State that your license has or will be suspended or revoked, you must serve out your required suspension or revocation. That being said, there are two reasons you have to complete the Florida advanced driver improvement course:

  1. To apply for a Florida hardship license. If you wish to apply for a Florida hardship license, which will entitle you to drive to and from work and certain other places as allowed by DHSMV, you must first provide proof that you have enrolled in a DHSMV approved ADI class. When you sign up for our online ADI course, you can pay a small fee to print your enrollment letter online and take it immediately to the Florida driver license office. (If you do not choose this option, you will still receive your enrollment letter, but it will be mailed to you instead.) Many Florida drivers apply for a hardship license so that they can retain at least some of their driving privileges during their suspension or revocation period.

  2. To get your Florida driver license reinstated. The process of restoring your Florida driving privileges is called reinstatement. DHSMV will only reinstate your license after you have provided proof that you successfully completed a Florida advanced driver improvement course. Once you complete our online advanced driver improvement program, you will receive a certificate of completion to be used for this purpose. You can receive your certificate faster if you pay for expedited shipping (you will see this option when you sign up for the course).
